How To Make Shorts Out Of Pants

Hey guys! I have another super easy, super useful tutorial for you.

My dad always ruins the bottoms of his work pants.
Instead of throwing them out, Dad asks me to turn them into shorts he can wear while working around the house. This is a great way to save money and upcycle, plus it's easy enough for beginners to do. You can also use this technique when hemming and/or shortening other garments.

What you'll need:

Pants

A pair of shorts that fit you

Sewing machine/sewing supplies

Scissors

Pins

Take your pants and fold them in half on your work space. Fold your shorts in half and place them on top of your pants, making sure the waistbands line up.

Next, cut your pants 1.5 to 2 inches below the bottom of your shorts. This will give you plenty of room to make a hem.

Now, flip your freshly cut pants inside out. Fold up your hem about an inch (or half an inch, if you gave yourself 1.5 inches for a hem).

Now fold your edge over one more time, so the cut edge is folded under, and pin it down. This will make sure your shorts' hem won't fray in the wash.

Sew your hem using a straight stitch (you can use a zigzag stitch if your fabric is stretchy).

And you're done! You now have a pair of shorts.
