How To Make A Lace Choker

Hey, hey, hey! A few weeks ago I saw a jewelry collection video on Youtube (I don't remember the link. Sorry!) The girl in the video showed a really pretty black lace choker with black beads hanging from it. I immediately thought "I can make that!"

Thus began my search for black lace. Unfortunately the only "craft" store in my town is Wal Mart. For some silly reason, my Wal Mart does not carry black lace. It does, however, carry burgundy lace bias tape (for only 50 cents in the clearance isle!). I snatched that up yesterday and today I dug out an old black, beaded bracelet I never wear and made this:

Pretty, huh? (Not me, the necklace, you sillies!)

Anywho, here's what you need to make it:

Lace ribbon (or regular ribbon. It's your necklace and, therefore, your call.)

A clasp. (I cut mine from an old bra, but you can use something else, or just cut your ribbon long enough to tie it in the back.)

Scissors

Pins

Needle and thread, or good fabric glue

Old necklace, bracelet or pendant to put on your choker

Measuring tape

A neck (tee hee)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK, first, you'll need to take your measuring tape and measure snugly around your neck. Your ribbon needs to be this length with the clasps attached to its ends. Before I cut my ribbon, I folded over a bit of the already cut end and pinned my one of my clasps to it. Then, I measured out the length of my neck measurement and cut. Then I folded my newly cut end a little bit and pinned my other clasp to it, making sure the end length still matched my neck measurement.
Now you'll need to grab your needle and thread and sew your clasps to your ribbon. If you have a good glue that works on fabric, feel free to use that.
I usually wear my hair down, so I sewed mine on messily. If you're planning to wear your hair up in a snazzy updo with this choker, I suggest you sew more neatly.
Anywho, it's now time to grab your old necklace, bracelet or pendant and sew it to the middle of your ribbon.
And you're done! Rejoice! You have a pretty new choker and it didn't cost you a fortune. Woot!
Pin It!
Thanks for the comment and for reading!
I know, it seems so weird to use an old bra hook, but they work so well and you'd probably just end up throwing it out anyway.
